OK. I know it's been a while since my last block. I've been way sidetracked.
but let me just throw this in here.

Where to start...
So I'm trying to figure put where someone should start on trying to become a hacker and my mom walks in with her brand new PSP and I find out that it has wireless. So I ask ... Can it browse the web? She said it has wifi but it doesn't seem to have a browser... So then I thougt to my self... If it can hop onto my wifi its gotta have an IP and if its got an IP it must be hackable.
So I look at the apps on it and find that the only times that the wifi link is established is when I tell it to find another PSP or when I tell it to test the connection. if it's searching for another PSP it only stays on for about 30 sec and then disconnects (I can tell because there's a little wifi led that lights up and shows activity), but when I tell it to test the connection the PSP establishes a connection, shows me the ip address info and stays on till the machine turns off or I exit the software. So I ping the machine it repied! but I noiced that it repied instantly to the first ping but then doesn't respond to the 2nd or 3rd and sometimes 4th ping until replying again? ok... so I decide to hop on line and see what other people are saying about it
... to my suprise not only have people already started hacking this machine like crazy! I mean this machine only came out the the public like the day before yesterday! but people have already figured out that one of the games has a hidden away browser and that the browser attempts to connect to a specific website, and they had built a linux box and reconfigured its dns settings to point to their home brew website with their linx box... and the hacks on and on.... and at first I was totaly intimadated, I mean what the hell am I doing getting all happy that I've ping the damn thing over the network? but then I thought ... ok, ok, ... so let me learn what they've learned, but how to do that? I know that if I just follow thier step by step instructions on how to do it I might learn a little, but If I followed the longer route and followed the process they followed to discover this hack I would learn volumes more.
I've notice hackers don't seem to be too keen on explaining how they go their information but rather just telling you what they found.... but I did see some metion of "packet snifing" and "port scanning", and I have a vage idea of what those things are because install firewalls and such to protect people from these things but I've never really used them. Allright! I have my first homework assignment for the day!
What is port scanning? - answer as thoughly as you can... then use it in some fashion... then retun results.
What is packet sniffing? - answer as thoughly as you can... then use it in some fashion... then retun results.
I'll get back to you guy when I finish.

where I'm starting from....
these are some notes on my current computer background so you can get a feel for what my current knowledge is and so if I loose you, just post some comments and I'll try and explain more about the blog.
I'm currently a computer tech I do on-site computer repair at peoples homes, offices, etc. I have been into computers for about 10 years and am considered among my pears to be fairly knowlegable. I have years of windows toubleshooting knowledge and can identify issues with with little effort. Most of my knowlege is centered in the windows operating systems, I have however woked with linux, mac, etc... althogh it would take me far longer to touble shoot issues with latter operating systems I usually find my way though it with the help of the internet.
I currently have absolutly no programming skills although I can usally read some small amounts of code and determine what they do.
O.K. So I'm at the part in my life where I'm starting to think that what I do is boring and that I need to learn more. So I figured while I stumble arround getting there I'll put it all on a blog for the world to see.
I'm new to this.....
ok... so I was on msn and was reading about vlogging a new trend and I come to realize that I've never blogged... I've heard about it a million times and even read other peoples bloggs so I decided to give it a whirl and while i'm at it maybe I can use it to improve my goals. Anywazz.... this is the first post and I am of course out of time so I willl make my real first post later.
